Book Dreams | Titles I'm Excited For in September

Black Bird of the Gallows by Meg Kessel - September 5, 2017 Entangled Publishing

[YA | Fantasy]

A simple but forgotten truth: Where harbingers of death appear, the morgues will soon be full.

Angie Dovage can tell there’s more to Reece Fernandez than just the tall, brooding athlete who has her classmates swooning, but she can’t imagine his presence signals a tragedy that will devastate her small town. When something supernatural tries to attack her, Angie is thrown into a battle between good and evil she never saw coming. Right in the center of it is Reece—and he’s not human.

What's more, she knows something most don't. That the secrets her town holds could kill them all. But that’s only half as dangerous as falling in love with a harbinger of death.

Warcoss by Marie Lu - September 12, 1017 GP Putmnam's Sons Books For All Readers

[YA | Fantasy | Sci-Fi]

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Marie Lu—when a game called Warcross takes the world by storm, one girl hacks her way into its dangerous depths.

For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.

What books are looking forward to in September?

  1. I'm really curious about Warcross. Since it's sci-fi (a genre I don't read much of), I'm not sure it'll be my thing, but I'm willing to give it a try. Plus, this author is so popular, I'm curious to see what all the fuss is about. :)

    1. Same here - I've never read a Marie Lu book before, but she's pretty popular. I'll be giving it a try soon.

  2. Warcross is SO good! The only problem is that now we have the long wait for the next book!

    1. Good to know! And ya, that's to worst part of a new series.

  3. I really want to read Blackbird of the Gallows too. It sounds so good! I just read Warcross a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. It was my first time reading Marie Lu and I can't wait to read more of her books.

    1. I haven't read Marie Lu yet, but think this is a good one to start with too. Glad you enjoyed it.
