Weekly Feature here at Snowdrop Dreams of Books where authors and bloggers share what five books and what five other items they would want with them if they were ever stuck on a deserted island and why they chose them. Some posts are serious, some are extremely silly and some are mixture. Check back every week to see what your fave authors and bloggers would pick.
Today I am so lucky to have Sasha Soren here participating in Deserted Island. Sasha is the author of the charming book, Random Magic. You can check out my review of her book here. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your picks with us!
Well, no one’s stranded on an island in Random Magic, although Henry does manage to shipwreck himself on the way to visit a powerful witch:
But he was so close to dry land. If he could just survive the landing…" He turned the wheel for all he was worth. The boat skidded to an out-of-control turn, skirted the rough gravel of the coastline, and crashed onto the rocks."
But, let’s see, if stranded on a desert island - at least for the weekend, and assuming you’re not Henry - these are five things and five books that’d be fun to have:
A hammock or a few cold drinks
Book #1: Robinson Crusoe - might get some tips from him on how to gather rain in a coconut.
Book #2: The Swiss Family Robinson, because they’d know a thing or two about starting a fire with nothing but some scraggly branches and a rock, and that could be useful.
A rowboat with a fishing rod and possibly a discarded bottle lying around in the bow. Or maybe a big bag to tote all kinds of interesting things around, which leads us to:
Book #3: Treasure Island - ‘cause you never know…
Book #4 could be something like The Survivors, just in case ever stranded on a desert island in space - it is the 21st century, after all.
Book #5 could be a combined book of biographies about any of these interesting ladies and gentlemen, because, like with the coconuts...or making a hut out of banana leaves…or wrestling alligators…they’d probably have a few interesting suggestions:
And if there is no book like that, then perhaps might have to write one, to while away the weekend on this desert island, and so, the last item to take along would be:
A typewriter and a big stack of paper.
A bottle would probably also be handy, so maybe there was one in that rowboat, after all. Just in case.
